Who is it for?

Anyone who wants to become more effective at solving problems through increasing:

  • Awareness of how our ways of communicating influence others.
  • Consciousness of the change processes in self, others and the context for surfing the waves of change, rather than drowning in the surf of the waves – fluidity in prioritizing

Prior knowledge of Satir work not required.

What can you gain?

After this workshop, you can:

  • easily find more time and energy for that which truly matters.
  • balance your interactions better.
  • develop long-term trust relationships.
  • support your self/family/team/community getting into a state of flow, where all deliver more value, while being more relaxed at the same time.
  • be confrontive and tolerant in equal balance, and if and when not balanced, focus on (re)balancing yourself.
  • keep the main thing the main thing.

How do we get there?

  • Peace Within: Congruent action
    Introduction
    Brief explanation of the self/other/context model as taught by Virginia Satir
    Experiencing (in)congruence in fun and enjoyable blaming/placating/irrelevant/superreasonable exercises.
  • Peace Between: Satir Interaction Model
    We act out a situation a participant is trying to deal with, and find more balanced ways for interacting in that situation that deliver better results.
  • Peace Among: Changing the way we change
    Applying the Satir Change model for embracing change more easily
    Temperature Reading demonstration – evaluation and closing of the workshop.

Workshop History

A 4 1/2 hour version of the Balancing Act, focused on exploring and acting out how Extreme Values, AgileValues or the values from the Agile Manifesto are playing in our work, has been run at several international conferences, like Agile Open, XP Day Benelux 2005, XP Day Germany 2005., XP Days France 2006, SPA2006.
