Workshop: Comfusion (new)

Understanding meaning is a difficult thing, if you know what I mean.

For one thing, we need a community to establish meaning. In fact, the word community contains both 'together' - com - and 'meaning' - mun. The Dutch word even contains 'creating' - schap - (as in 'landscape', a word English borrowed from the Dutch). A name is not a convenient label, it is a sign with a symbolic meaning. Symbolic is used to mean: with a tacit (implicit) meaning'. The meaning is being derived from the context.

There is no meaning outside community. There are (other) communities outside any community. A community uses meaning to define itself. So, there is the reason why others are mean and we're mean to them! It is no coïncidence that this 'is' - or perhaps, we use - the same word. Meanness and meaning are both part of the package deal. Knowing who 'I' am, that is, being a meaning, implies having another meaning about others. 'I' know another is not me, so, at least 'I''d better assume that other might be mean to me. This triggers a vicious circle: it is a kind of prisoners dilemma.

Cultures are meant to clash and no amount of facilitating is going to prevent that. In fact, my point is that we - as facilitators - should reverse this: facilitate the clashes!

In this workshop you can learn how to be different, how to express differences, how to disagree, and how to clash.

Learn to count coup on, and effectively deal with, petty tyrants ...

Roleplay that right bastard (in a safe setting)!
